Our mission is to provide children and educators with learning experiences, tools and programs that can help them develop the necessary social emotional and life skills for becoming thoughtful, engaged citizens and leaders in the 21st century.
Behind the wonder, there are more than 10 years of research about creativity and social emotional learning:
EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING of social emotional skills
Through experience we acquire knowledge. Tom Boydell (1976) explains that through a ‘meaningful discovery’ the learner restructures his perceptions of what is happening, or in other words, learns.
In our programs, children go through adventures that are designed with a specific sequence that start with a connection moment. Once we have built trust with the kids, we bring them into an immersive activity that allows them to experience multiple discoveries about themselves and what surrounds them, both as individuals and as part of a larger group. Learning the techniques and reflecting about the shared experience are essential steps to consolidate learning. Through a metacognitive process, we benefit from current emotional states to reinterpret, innovate, consolidate and transfer learning.
THE SCHOOL OF WONDER FRAMEWORK
To pursue our mission in today’s society, we consider fundamental to work on the following social emotional learning pillars:
Self-awareness: the capacity to identify, name, accept, regulate, share and honor one’s emotions, needs and wants.
Empathy: the ability to understand and share the emotions, needs and wants of another.
Relationship skills: the capacity to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically, using compassionate communication
Self-driven life: the capacity to control your own life, do what feels meaningful and succeed or fail on your own.
Wonder: the desire to know something; the inspiration or curiosity to explore further.
Conscious Global Citizens: the ability to understand and act with global perspective, with awareness of the environmental challenges, cultural diversity and inequality existing in the Earth.
Core: the capacity to live a life based on these universal values and mindsets. The muscle of resilience, focus, motivation, trust, and work ethic.
