Adventures with Gaia

IMMERSIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCEs GUIDED BY THE GREEK GODDESS OF NATURE

“Adventures with Gaia”  is an innovative, mission-led, environmental curriculum program where children learn about our planet while immersed in a fictional narrative.

The curriculum exists as a series of adventures in which kids are activated to become Guardians of the Earth. Each adventure follows a narrative arch in which the Wonder Kids are exposed to a reality that sparks thoughtful curiosity. This curiosity leads them to examine the questions in their mind and discover new information in the world around them. Finally, they are called to take action in a variety of ways to become protectors of the Earth.

The children explore the environment and environmental issues through a lens of wonder.  With the help of original maps, compasses, natural materials, and mysterious scrolls, they go on adventurous hikes, meet fantastic artists, and complete creative missions together.

Gaia is a mystical spirit, the Mother of the Earth, and a goddess of ancient Greek Mythology. She is also the protagonist of our Prospect Park adventures!

At the School of Wonder, Gaia is personified not in physical form, but rather as the author of written and recorded messages. Her voice is used to guide us and call us to action.

Our adventures begin when the Wonder Kids discover mysterious messages in Gaia’s Mailbox. She is searching to enlist new Guardians of the Earth to help restore her balance, but in order to be initiated as Guardians, the Wonder Kids must first gain her trust, learn her secrets, and show their active support. Gaia guides them through a series of missions and challenges, including scavenger hunts, games, interviews, crafts, and activities that lead to riveting riddles and delightful dance parties!

All adventures with Gaia are original stories designed by the School of Wonder team.

Wonder Kids engage with advanced topics related to sustainability and environmental awareness through creative and artistic activities that merge the arts and sciences. Each immersive experience is a unique adventure with a different theme. For example:

  • Guardians of the Earth focuses on empowering kids to make a difference after examining nature’s balances and imbalances.

  • Guardians of the Elements focuses on mastering the five elements.

  • Guardians of the Community focuses on getting to know the people who care for, protect, and give personality to Brooklyn’s local culture.

  • Guardians of the Wild focuses on gaining knowledge from wild animals, plants, and trees.

  • Guardians of the Future focuses on determining the future that we want to build and taking action to make it happen.

These themes and more are addressed with wonder, curiosity, and imagination at the center. Read more about these themes and discover how to join the adventures here!
