A 21ST CENTURY SKILLS LEARNING FRAMEWORK

Our educational adventures are designed to help Wonder Kids become Guardians of the Earth through 4 areas of personal growth: Creativity, Community, Sovereignty, and Global Responsibility.

This learning framework has been developed by Marta Pascual Barea, founder and expert in K–12 educational design.

The creative self

This area of personal growth develops creative thinking and fosters possibilities for creative expression as we learn:

  • Creative self-expression, improvisational play, and interdisciplinary art forms

  • Creative problem-solving, human-centered design, ingenuity, and intuition.

  • Spatial-visual thinking

The Wonder Kid:

  • Accesses their imagination to explore their inner and outer worlds and expresses themself freely and creatively through a variety of art forms.

  • Approaches problems with curiosity and ingenuity.

  • Derives insight from maps and visual data and develops an ability to envision information and new ideas.

Sovereignty

The Determined Self

This area of personal growth develops the inner strength to realize our vision and build our own, independent paths in life as we learn:

  • Autonomy, freedom & responsibility, self-care, and emotional regulation

  • Agency, courage, resilience, self-knowledge, and independent thinking

  • Purpose, intention, mission-driven mindset, focus, and determination

The Wonder Kid:

  • Understands and respects the boundaries of their freedom, regulates their emotions, and takes care of themself.

  • Knows themself and has the courage and clarity to identify their needs and think independently.

  • Makes intentional and informed decisions about their own life.

Community

The Compassionate Self

This area of personal growth develops a social mindset as we learn:

  • Social emotional intelligence, empathy, non violent communication, and conflict resolution

  • Collective mindset, cooperation & team work, solidarity & mutual aid

  • Community building, sense of belonging, organization and social activation

The Wonder Kid:

  • Resolves conflicts through effective listening and communication.

  • Shares what they have and considers and supports the needs of those around them.

  • Includes everyone, building meaningful relationships and working together toward a common goal.

The Committed Self

This area of personal growth develops an understanding of the world we all share and how to be of best service it and its people as we learn:

  • Earth stewardship and ecological knowledge

  • Diversity & multiculturalism, social and historical perspective

  • Ethics & human rights, integrity, justice and peace

The Wonder Kid:

  • Understands the relationship between humans and the earth and practices a sustainable life.

  • Appreciates and explores cultural differences and acknowledges history

  • Leads a values-driven life, working toward justice, peace, and freedom for all people.

How it all ties together

These four areas of personal growth inform the design of our immersive adventures and build an invisible toolbox of skills, habits, and techniques that can help the Wonder Kids become build self-esteem from a solid foundation.

With two age-based sections, we tailor our programs and adventures to match your children’s developmental needs at each stage: Wonderers are kids in grades K-1 (early childhood) and Adventurers for kids in grades 2-5 (late childhood).
