A wonder map of El Retiro Park, in Madrid. Sculptures, palaces, trees, hills and fountains are the perfect scenes for a magical adventure.

One of our favorite Wonder Adventures is The Quest for the Forgotten Kingdom, an immersive theater-game designed for children aged 3 to 13, happening at the Retiro Park, in Madrid.

It is also a great example of what adventure-based learning looks like in action:

The Quest for the Forgotten Kingdom is an adventure into an imaginary world within the Retiro Park, a world where lions and humans used to live in harmony. A Human King and a Lion King reigned over this magical kingdom. But, sadly, as the kingdom was the envy of its enemies, it was imprisoned and a spell was cast over it making it decay and descend into oblivion, almost disappearing forever…

Kids in capes gathered around a clue

The children in their capes, together with the Wonder Magician, discover the first clue of the game. This symbol reminds the Wonder Magician about the existence of a desert where some treasure hides. "Well, it's going to be a long journey to get to the desert!" - notes little Luis.

Kids hands on a map

As we solve the clues we help the Wonder Magician recover his memory. As his memory comes back to him, new pieces of a mysterious map appear, showing us the way.

Luckily, a Wonder Magician escaped from the spell. This entertaining and mysterious character invites kids and their families to embark on a 2 hour fantasy journey around the park to help recover the memory of the Forgotten Kingdom. The Wonder Magician has forgotten the way back and needs the help of the children. Only those who still remember how to use their imagination can help him to save this world.

Magician and a kid

The clue of “The Spell” has a drawing of a labyrinth. It leads them to look for the royal scepters in the gardens of the Spellbound. Little Juan seems to have found one of these scepters and it has a encoded message in it…

Similar to a treasure hunt, there are fun, creative and ingenious clues and puzzles that lead us towards the Palace of the Kings. The adventure combines story-telling with role-playing, map orientation, and collaborative mini games, all intertwined in a story that unfolds as we find new pieces of the Forgotten Kingdom’s map (maps are always part of the fun and learning in School of Wonder).

The fantasy tale is an original story inspired by the nature and monuments of Retiro Park as well as renowned adventure books.

Time to rest and a picnic is also part of any great adventure. In the picture, this young Treasurer is enjoying some snacks while the older Guide comes back with a new clue found at the Sorceress’ feet.
