FAMILY CAMP kitchen lead

We are seeking an experienced cook to join us for a 5-day retreat in a magical environment from August 5th to 9th, 2026 at Lake Luzerne, NY

Position: Family Camp Cook/ Kitchen Lead

5-day paid gig | August 5-9th, 2026 | Lake Luzerne, NY

About us: School of Wonder creates nature-based immersive experiences for kids and families in Brooklyn. Since 2025 we've been running a Family Camp at Hidden Lake Girl Scout Camp — a beautiful lakeside setting in the Adirondacks. This year we're back, and we're looking for someone to feed our community well.

The gig: Cook 13 meals (4 breakfasts, 5 lunches, 4 dinners) for ~45 people — about a third of them kids. You'll have a well-equipped commercial kitchen, a kitchen crew, and camp volunteers to support you. Accommodation in the chef's cabin is included.

The style is wholesome, healthy and family-friendly — think bagel spreads and parfait bars in the morning, wraps and taco bars at lunch, and proper sit-down dinners like chicken francese, pasta night, and stir fry. Always with vegetarian and allergy-friendly alternatives. Dinners are our community gathering moment — they should feel nourishing and a little special.

Who we're looking for: Someone comfortable cooking for groups, managing a kitchen, and handling common dietary needs (vegetarian, allergies, kids' palates). Camp cook, private chef, catering background — all welcome. This is less about fine dining and more about good, wholesome food made with care.

What's included: Lodging on-site for the duration. Kitchen support crew. A community that genuinely appreciates good food (including a chef testimonial from last year below).

Dates: First meal: Wednesday, August 5 — lunch at 12pm Last meal: Sunday, August 9 — brunch at 11am

“ Really impressive and magical job to bring all the right people together, and to create a very dynamic and impactful experience for everyone. Everyone has a vision of retreats, but executing it, it’s different. Curating the right guests, families, people and community-driven people. When you bring good people together nothing bad can happen! You brought wonderful people”
